I work with natural light along with some professional lighting equipment. I have found the best time of day for your session is in the morning or late afternoon just before sunset. A session generally last between one or two hours. When shooting families and children this allows time for snacks, breaks and playtime. Sometimes this is the best time to capture your child’s natural expressions. When I am with couples this time is used to keep changing the backdrops along with outfits.
When it comes to clothing and accessories I have a couple suggestions to get us started:
Newborn: I think newborns look beautiful in their bare skin, but hats, blankets and any other props are always welcome to diversify the look
Baby: Having options is always best and I can help choose between outfits with you. I find bold, solid and bright colors work best while avoiding logo’s. Having props such as stuffed animals, hats or anything else you can think of is great.
Children: I love to see kids wear clothes that are full of color and unique. Girls look cute in sundresses or skirts. Boys look trendy in flannels, or a classic t-shirt and jeans. When in doubt bare beet can easily be the way to go.
Family & Couples: I would try to avoid matching each other completely and instead aim to compliment one another by wearing similar colors keeping to solids and mixing it up with a texture, pattern, layers or print.
